| More info: | The sound of young Britain in October 1996. And I mean really young - Symposium, Kenickie, Midget - hardly a single member eligible
to vote when this was recorded. The Period Pains, if you don't know, are a foursome of public school girls, age 13-14 when this was
released. There's hardly a bad song on here - even Toast, who I usually hate, sound good - although as a devoted Kenickie fan, I can
safely say that theirs is hardly one of their best. And the Pin-Ups' track is utter cack. Most of the bands included played at a two-night 'festival of youth' called Let's Make History in central London. Helen Love were the main support to Symposium on 5 October, on a bill that also included the Pin-Ups, Period Pains and 'Mystery Guests'. Some of the songs on the compilation is available elsewhere - the superb Wendyhouse is on Midget's Welcome Home Jellybean CD, the Dweeb song was on their debut single, Symposium put Disappear on their Farewell To Twilight debut and their singles compilation and Supersexy Revolutionary is on at least one other compilation (Snakebite City 6). But the Helen Love track is an exclusive. (Note: isn't it a joke that an album featuring so many people under 18 years old should have one of those dumb 'Parental Advisory' stickers on it?!) |
