More info: | From the back of the single sleeve: "Joey Ramoney is the song Sheena always wanted us to make - well they wrote a song about
her, didn't they". A paean (it's a real word, look it up) to teenage pop-star worship. On the primary side, that aforementioned tribute
to Sheena's favourite Ramone; on the flip, an account of unbridled passion and fandom. For ages I thought Greatest Fan's
pay-off line was meant cynically, as if 'I was number 437 in your fan club' was meant to show that the person wasn't number one and
thus not really that much of a fan after all. Then I thought I was reading too much into a simple pop song, so I've given up on that
line now. What else? Only to say that this was the first Helen Love record I heard - I wanted to get Punk Boy after hearing the Ash version, but could only find this. I wasn't too impressed at first but, well, look what I'm doing now. Proof that Helen Love changes lives! |
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney,
Wants to be his one and only,
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney
Joey Ramoney, whenever you’re lonely,
All you got to do is call me,
There’s a girl who loves you on the other side of the world
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney,
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney
He’s seven foot tall, arms down to the floor,
In his ripped-up jeans he’s making me scream,
Oh Joey, Joey Ramoney
He’s got long black hair, he jumps in the air,
When he counts up to four it’s like a nuclear war,
Oh Joey, Joey Ramoney
Do you remember when you heard him sing on the radio,
Joey Ramoney,
Don’t he look good?
Joey Ramoney,
Don’t he look good?
Joey Ramoney,
Don’t he look good?
Joey Ramoney
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney,
Wants to be his one and only,
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney
Joey Ramoney, whenever you’re lonely,
All you got to do is call me,
There’s a girl who loves you on the other side of the world
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney,
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney
Hey ho, let’s go,
Hey ho, let’s go,
Hey ho, let’s go,
Hey ho, let’s go,
Gabba gabba hey hey,
Gabba gabba hey hey ho,
Hey!
Gabba gabba hey hey,
Gabba gabba hey hey ho,
Hey!
Gabba gabba hey hey,
Gabba gabba hey hey ho,
Hey!
Sheena’s in love with Joey Ramoney
When I saw you at the radio station,
I was waiting for your autograph,
You wore scruffy pumps and your jeans were faded,
Wearing a T-shirt with a face on the back
I was your greatest, greatest fan,
I was your greatest, greatest fan
When I saw you on Top Of The Pops,
I drew the curtains and turned the lights off,
I kissed the screen till my heart nearly stopped
I was your greatest,
I was your greatest,
I was your greatest,
I was your greatest fan
When I saw you at the radio station,
Couldn’t believe you were so close to me,
Kissed the girls sitting in their wheelchairs,
Caught your eye and you smiled at me
I was your greatest, greatest fan,
I was your greatest, greatest fan
When I saw you on Top Of The Pops,
I drew the curtains and turned the lights off,
I kissed the screen till my heart nearly stopped
I was your greatest,
I was your greatest,
I was your greatest,
I was your greatest fan
I was number 437 in your fan club
